Get a needs assessment
After you have had a diagnosis of dementia one of the very next steps to take is to have a needs assessment. This is also known as a care assessment or a health and social care assessment.
The assessment is done by your local council's social services department and it is to determine what help and support may benefit you.
You may find that you do not need any support at the moment or you may find that they can offer you a little bit of help around the home.
The assessment is not designed to take you out of your home. In fact, it is quite the opposite. The assessment is designed to help you get the support you need to live in your home for as long as possible.
Living an independent lifestyle at home is the best thing for a person with dementia. The help and support offered to you is there to make sure you are safe while living independently.
There is a lot of help and support available to you including;
- Equipment
- Home Adaptations
- Care Services In The Home
- Healthcare
- And More
To see what help is available to you in your local area do contact your local social services department. As all areas of the country are a little different we can't give you exact information in regards to the help and support you have available.
Social services will be able to provide this information and so can your local GP. There is a lot of help available to you and your family and it is designed to help you lead an independent life at home.
