Symptoms in the later stages of dementia
As dementia progresses the symptoms that you had in the first case will begin to get worse. Dementia affects the brain and kills the brain cells and so any symptoms you have in the beginning will continue to worsen with the disease. Memory loss and difficulties with communication can become a great deal more severe.
In the late stages of dementia, a person will most likely begin to neglect their own health. This is when they need to have constant care and attention. This can be a very hard decision for anyone to make but do remember that is it in your loved ones' best interests to get them the care they need. Even if this means taking them out of their home to get this care.
There is a lot of help and support out there for people with dementia as well as their loved one as well. If you are affected by your family member suffering with dementia, then speak with your GP or your local social services. Ask them for help managing. They may offer you counselling or if you are a carer they may offer you services such as respite care.
Unfortunately, there is no cure for dementia currently. Any symptoms that a person has will begin to get worse over time. How long it will take depends on their overall health. Everyone is different and dementia affects everyone differently.
